Serena Saggini is a highly experienced pharmaceutical senior executive with more than 25 years of leadership experience in the global life sciences and biotechnology industry. She currently serves as Director at Sophos Biotech S.r.l. in Milan, Italy, where she leads the commercial growth in the Oncology sector and contributes to the business development of the company.

Throughout her career, Serena has built strong leadership in Biotechnology, Rare Diseases, Oncology, Central Nervous System (CNS) disorders, Cardiology, Nephrology, and Women’s health. She has played key roles in business development, marketing strategy, market access, sales leadership, and tenders coordination, successfully driving growth and market expansion for innovative therapies.

Before joining Sophos Biotech, she held senior leadership positions at major pharmaceutical companies including Sanofi Genzyme, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, GSK, and Schering-Plough. During her long tenure at Sanofi Genzyme, she led multiple business units focused on rare diseases such as Fabry, Pompe, and MPS, as well as Endocrine Oncology, managing large teams and overseeing significant commercial operations in Italy.

Serena has also demonstrated strong strategic capabilities by building and structuring new business units, including the creation of an Onco-Hematology European team for a Japanese pharmaceutical company. Her work has consistently focused on developing market strategies, strengthening partnerships with healthcare institutions, and improving access to innovative treatments for patients.

In addition to her corporate leadership roles, Serena is an active participant in international pharmaceutical conferences and industry forums, where she has served as a key speaker on topics such as commercial excellence, sales force effectiveness, and digital strategy in pharma. She has been invited to speak at multiple global events, including the International Summit on Future of Commercial Excellence & Digital Strategy.

Her contributions to the healthcare sector have been recognized with several honors, including the Women in Health Award in 2017, highlighting her leadership and impact in the pharmaceutical industry.

Academically, Serena completed Business and Leadership studies at Harvard Business School, earned a Pharma Master from SDA Bocconi School of Management, and holds a Master’s degree in Management Science from Università di Pisa.
