Luisa María Arvide Cambra is a distinguished Spanish scholar and professor specializing in Arabic and Islamic studies, born on August 10, 1956, in Almería, Spain. With over 49 years devoted to teaching and research, she has established herself as one of Spain’s most accomplished experts in medieval Arabic science and literature.

Arvide Cambra pursued dual undergraduate degrees at the University of Granada from 1973 to 1978: Hispanic Philology and Semitic Philology with a specialization in Arabic and Islamic Philology. She earned an Extraordinary Bachelor’s Degree Award in Semitic Philology for the academic year 1979-1980. Her doctoral studies culminated in 1982 when she received a Ph.D. in Semitic Philology (Arabic and Islamic section) from the University of Granada, earning an Extraordinary Doctorate Award for the 1981-1983 academic period.

Her commitment to mastering Arabic led her to advanced studies across multiple Arab countries under scholarships from the Instituto Hispano-Árabe de Culture and the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She obtained Master’s degrees in Classical Arabic at the University of Amman (Jordan, 1985), the Bourguiba Institute of Living Languages at the University of Tunis (Tunisia, 1986), and the University of Damascus (Syria, 1988), plus a Master’s in Egyptian Dialectal Arabic in Alexandria (1989).
